The smells of Ireland
when we went to ireland in february, everyone - pubs, homes, hotels; all burned this stuff called peat. at first i thought it was stinky; now, i love it. i love it SO much i ordered a bundle for my house. (I'm excited about winter coming, can you tell?)
so now, my home will fondly remind me of the lovely smells of the pubs we'd visited in the best country every made.
i need to buy some smithwicks...slainte...

I like your scratch and sniff post.
Oh, that cracklin' fire. i LOVE IT, TK.
Is that a kind of moss? I bet I woud like the smell, probably real earthy. I miss having a wood burning fireplace this gas BS jus doesn't cut it.
It was in the 90's today! I can't even begin to think about peat or fire or any of that nonsense right now.
well it's 56 degrees here this morning so i'm READY for my fire!
what is peat? i dont know...like a mossy kinda growth that they smoosh in to a hard brick. and then you burn it. it lasts forever and doesn't crackle or pop so you don't need a screen.
Erin go bragh!!
My family heritage is Irish! We come from a town called Bagenalstown in county Carlow. My maiden name is Bagnell. I have never been to Ireland, but feel such a pull there that I HAVE to go.
Peat is lovely smelling I think. Jim loves it when they use it in Scotch distilling. It enhances the flavour so he says. I got a wicked hangover from the stuff and don't care to ever have a sip again as long as I live. I'm also very excited for winter. Can't wait for those cool temps. Aaaahhhh!! No more sweaty, sticky, stinky Carrie. YES!
i seethe with jealousy at your fireplace. seethe.
Peat? I don't know him.
Is Peat related to my pal Pete? Or is this a re-Peat? Is the acronym of PeTA part of the love affair we have with PeAT?
Vicki got me goin' there!!
Have a great week, TK!
xo
summer go bye bye. course it was 93 yesterday. ouch.
CARRIE...you're my irish sister! i irish too. infact, i wanted to find out if i could apply for dual citizenship but it's my grandma that came from ireland...our last name is Casey. you would adore ireland. ADORE it! last night we went to the fox & goose pub becuase the last tuesdays of the month they have an irish jam session...aaah...made me weepy.
all right you two. leave peat out of this! he burns willingly!
i heart you too tabbies...
When I was in Ireland we went around the Ring of Kerry and went to an old fashioned village where they have the peat bogs. Isn't it funny how we get used to smells. It is homey to me.
It is vegetaion that doesn't decay completely and gets compressed. They use it in Ireland because they don't have as many trees for fuel. I'll stop being a teacher ;)
