Pit Bull ban

This breed scares me. They always have. Anytime I'm walking Kody and I see a pit bull, my heart beats a little faster and i say a quick prayer.

I, unfortunately, am for a pit bull ban. I am an avid animal lover and an animal rights activist so this seems contradictory. However, this breed is suffering immensley, because of its propensity towards its unique fighting traits and reputation.

Too many morons own pit bulls. And if you think I'm lying, check out your local pound. It's usually occupied by over 50% pits. Isn't that sad? What does that say? It's says morons own pit bulls and can't take care of them. It says low-lifes think they're cool and bad-ass so they get a pit bull only to not give a shit about caring for them and loving them and taking care of them like they deserve. and what a crying shame.

Pit bulls are lovely animals. They are gentle, loyal, smart, agile and pretty incredible. It's a shame this breed should be outlawed becuase of the majority of pit bull owners.

And before you tell me that there are more dog bites reported by chihuahuas and cockers, may i remind you that probably 99.9999999% of those aren't fatal. Not so with the pit bull.

And, also, before you tell me what a great pit bull owner you are and fuck me, may I say that i have a wolf-hybrid whom i ADORE; however, I would like to see THIS breed obsolete as well.

It takes an incredibly patient and loving person to care for these types of high-maintenance animals and I don't see that trait among most dog owners, sorry to say. (well pits not really, they respond to just the slightest of attention)

So again, before you attack me, i come from a place of concern for the breed. I'd rather phase out this breed then see them suffer by the thousands in the pound or shot by police officers.

If you take a walk through Oak Park, you literally take a walk on the wild side...every other home has a pit bull and they are either chained up and just left in the yard all day and all night. WTF?

When I was younger we used to have a pit-bull/Rotweiler mix who was the sweetest and most intelligent dog I've ever had...but that was because we took care of him and had the time for him. It really is just so sad that people so often buy pit bulls as a symbol of their machismo, then misteat them, and then refuse to take care of them. A ban may be just what we need.

really. we should ban all animals since it's so difficult to be kind, loving and respectful to all of them, eh?

well, don't ask kody becuase he'll assume every dog is treated like him. even though he THINKS he's mistreated becuase i boot him off the bed sometimes.

spoiled ass.

I agree there is a huge problem with idiots getting dogs that they think will up their tough guy image, and then end up dumping them or chaining them up in the yard and never giving them another thought. And they certainly aren’t getting them neutered, cause who respects a dude with a dog with no balls? That’s just what we need, another litter of pit mixes dumped in the pound where no one will want them. I, however, don’t think breed bans are the answer. This only reinforces the public’s attitude that it is the breed itself and not the owners that are to blame, and we all know that ain’t exactly true. This also punishes all the good owners with well loved, trained, and socialized family pets that just happen to be of the pit bull variety. I could go on and on, but I don’t mean to beat people over the head with my opinions about this stuff. I just think it’s so sad that when humans make mistakes or decisions based on themselves and their egos, that the animals are the ones who pay in the end.

Thanks for your view Shanani - i hate to even feel like i want that breed phased out but unfortunately there will ALWAYS be idiots in this world. always. and that breed will be the one to suffer. AS i mentioned too i have a hybrid mix and that is another breed where ignorance causes them to suffer. i almost got rid of kody becuase it was too much to handle when i just decided i would put forth the extra effort anyway. not many people are will to donate half their life to a dog. SO, i don't care what the publics view of the dog is, what i care about is the welfare of the dog and pit bulls are the ones that suffer.

i hope i don't piss you off by disagreeing...

perhaps the humans who treat ANY animal poorly should be "phased out"??

I think banning any animal because humans are idiots is a travesty. perhaps we should attempt to take care of the source of the problem, not the outcome. it's not the pit bulls' fault.

~Leaping on ramblin' girl's soap box~

I do have an opinion on the subject. It's a little long, and I am working on preventing myself from taking up too much of someone else's blog space. If you would like to see it, it's here.

To the owner, I tried to keep my comment as restrained as possible since it is your post that evoked my post. Also, I did not mention this blog specifically, because my opinion is not meant to be personal towards you. Clearly there are many with your same opinion, so my post is against that large view...as opposed to the view of one specific person.

Sincerely,

The Mad Hoosier

Thank you Ramblin' Girl and Mad Hoosier. I own an American Pit Bull Terrier and [insert deity of choice here] help you if you try and take her away from me. Drop by Gone Ronin if you care to see my post on the subject, or visit Son Of Clown Ops to read Mister Jinxy's thoughts. Doggy genocide is not the answer.

We adopted Phoebe from the Multnomah County shelter because she was just too cute. We're not assholes, and we don't need a dog for any machismo BS purpose. We had a Great Dane who died of bloat just after last Thanksgiving, and hadn't planned on getting another dog for several months at least. The week before Christmas, my lovely wife sent me a picture of this adorable dog and I fell in love instantly.
